UNICRI, together with the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) and the Permanent Missions to the United Nations of Georgia, the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the United Arab Emirates, will convene a high-level event at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
A new report “Artificial Intelligence and Robotics for Law Enforcement” has been published by the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute’s (UNICRI), Centre for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotics, and Innovation Centre of the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL).
The report summarizes key findings, challenges and recommendations presented and discussed during the first INTERPOL - UNICRI Global Meeting on the Opportunities and Risks of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics for Law Enforcement held in Singapore on 11-12 July 2018.
On 29 January 2019 UNICRI and SICPA signed a multi-year agreement for the new phase of the UNICRI project on Security through Research, Technology and Innovation (SIRIO). The project aims at increasing knowledge and information sharing on technology features in key security areas such as: supply chain security; chemical, biological radiological and nuclear (CBRN) management; cyber-security; biotechnology and nano-technology, Artificial Intelligence, blockchain and big data analytics.

From 22 to 24 October 2018, UNICRI and the Jordanian Corrections and Rehabilitation Centres Department (CRCD) are holding a Training of Trainers Course for Psychologists and Social Workers on the Rehabilitation and Reintegration of Violent Extremist Offenders (VEOs) in prison settings.
On 9 – 10 August UNICRI participated in the 2018 Meeting of Experts of the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC) held at the Palais des Nations, in Geneva. More specifically, the Institute took part to the session Review of Developments in the Field of Science and Technology Related to the Convention (MX2). In its presentation during the plenary session, representatives of UNICRI described the primary goals, the working methodology and the geographical dimension of the International Network on Biotechnology (INB).
